Relax The Grip

One of the most common mistakes that people make when they play golf is that they grip the handle of the club or the putter like they are strangling it. Trust me I struggle with this problem just as much as the next person. When you grip the club too hard it can keep the club face from releasing and this can lead to many problems not the least of which is slicing the ball.

2 Places that you can save strokes is your putting and your short game. When you are putting make sure you have a light grip on the putter this will allow your putter head to flow through and you will finish the stroke. This will lead to a pure putt and more made putts.

You can also save strokes around the green by relaxing your grip. Again, if your grip is to strong than it will not allow you to release the clubhead and can cause fat shots or the hot shots that run off the green. In any case neither one of these options are real good.

One tip I got when I was having problems with my grip is that when you set up over the ball or before you take your stance grab the club or putter as tight as you can. Then you will know how it feels to grip it to tight. When you actually are over the ball you can than relax the grip and you will be able to tell a major difference in your grip pressure.

If you still have problems with grip pressure always try to relax and take deep breathes. You will be suprised how tense you actully are and if you take 3 or 4 deep breathes you will be amazed how much more relaxed you feel and this will help release all of the tension and help with your grip pressure.
